Frequently Asked Questions
What is a diagnostic ultrasound?
A diagnostic ultrasound is a medical imaging exam that uses sound waves to evaluate organs, soft tissues, blood flow, or pregnancy-related concerns. These scans are performed for medical purposes and interpreted by a licensed radiologist.
What is the difference between diagnostic and elective ultrasound?
Diagnostic ultrasounds are medically indicated exams ordered by a healthcare provider and interpreted by a radiologist. Elective 3D/4D ultrasounds are non-medical bonding experiences and are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions.
What types of diagnostic ultrasounds do you offer?
Services may include:
- Pelvic ultrasound
- Transvaginal ultrasound
- Abdominal ultrasound (gallbladder, liver, kidneys, etc.)

Referrals, Results & Medical Information
Do I need a doctor’s order?
Yes. A provider referral/order is required for all diagnostic ultrasounds.
Who reads my ultrasound?
All diagnostic studies are interpreted by board-certified radiologists through our teleradiology partners.
When will I get my results?
Final radiology reports are typically sent to your ordering provider within 24–48 business hours. Urgent findings are communicated promptly.
Can you explain my results during the appointment?
Your sonographer can explain the imaging process, but medical diagnosis and interpretation must come from the radiologist and/or your ordering provider.
What if additional imaging is needed?
If the radiologist recommends further evaluation, your ordering provider will discuss the next steps with you.
Is my medical information protected?
Yes. Patient privacy is important to us, and all medical records are handled in accordance with HIPAA privacy standards.
